A sound financial decision

When you take out a Golden Charter funeral plan, you have the reassurance that your money is protected. You select how you wish to pay for your plan and, depending on your choice, your money is paid into the Golden Charter Trust or to one of the UK's leading life assurance companies. The Golden Charter Trust is a separate entity run by an independent Board of Trustees, whose sole purpose is to manage the Trusts funds.

Your money grows and when the time comes your selected funeral director receives the payment, including any growth, and uses this money to provide the agreed services to your family. No matter how much costs have risen in the intervening period, your loved ones will not be asked for a penny more for the guaranteed services included within your plan. For many people it can be important to have the peace of mind of knowing that whatever may happen the cost of their funeral is covered.

We are proud to be associated with Golden Charter. If you are interested in our Pre-paid Funeral Plans please do not hesitate to make an appointment with us.

A Golden Charter Plan gives you freedom of choice

Some funeral planning companies restrict your choice of funeral director or limit you to set plans. We believe that you should have the freedom to choose what you want in your funeral plan including what is perhaps the most important choice – which funeral director will look after you and your family to ensure that your wishes are carried out.

Golden Charter works on behalf of more than 2900 independent funeral directors who are mainly well established family run businesses who have served the area and their communities for generations. They take pride in offering the best local service to you and your family.

A guarantee

A Golden Charter plan covers all your independent funeral director's services.

Once you've paid for your Golden Charter plan, you can be sure that neither your loved ones nor your estate will be asked for a penny more for the services within the control of your funeral director - no matter how much these costs may rise in years to come.

Some costs are paid on your behalf by the funeral director but are not within his control, these are known as disbursements, and include things like: the fees of cemeteries, crematoria, doctors, clergy, newspaper notices and memorials. Only if the increase in these costs were to exceed the disbursements amount allowed for in the plan might there be a balance to pay at the time of need.

Protection against rising funeral costs

Back in 2004, an average funeral cost around £1,920. However, recent research shows the average cost of a funeral in the UK is now £3,456 – an increase of 80% in nine years, well above the general level of inflation. If this trend continues, the average cost of a funeral in 2022 will be over £6,220.

Paying in advance for your funeral is a sensible decision that will save money, benefiting your family or estate. We guarantee that as long as your plan is paid for there will be no more to pay for the services within your funeral directors control.

The service of your choice

Cremation

Every Golden Charter plan includes an allowance of £1,250 towards the cost of cremation and, where applicable, the fees of doctors and clergy. If the cost of cremation in your area exceeds this allowance, the difference can be covered through the Personalisation option.

Burial

Because the cost and availability varies widely throughout the country, our plans do not include the purchase of burial plots, although an allowance of £1,250 is included towards the opening of a new or existing grave and the fees of doctors and clergy. Special arrangements may have to be made through the Personalisation option. Our  funeral directors can discuss and advise you on this.

Religious Services

Each plan covers fees for clergy attending at the crematorium or cemetery. If you wish for a religious service, the cost of using the place of worship, heating or an organist or choir can be included through the Personalisation option.
